Keren Cooper

Position: Scientific Officer, Department Molecular and Cell Biology, UCT

Keren is a Scientific Officer in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Cape Town, and has worked as such since 2009. She is based primarily in the Plant Stress Group, the research group of Prof. Jill Farrant, but also administers and trains users for the fluorescent microscope and HPLC facilities for the department. She obtained her Master of Science (Botany) degree from the University of Cape Town in 2002 focussing on the physiological and ultrastructural response to desiccation stress of two desiccation-tolerant plant genera (Xerophyta and Craterogstigma). At MPG, she will be investigating the metabolome of X. elegans tissue subjected to osmotic stress and X. schlechteri tissue during dehydration and rehydration. Her goals are to gain a better understanding of metabolomics research and data analysis.
