Markéta Macho

Markéta is a Ph.D. student at the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Alisdair Fernie and Dr. Saleh Alseekh at MPG since 2023. She obtained her master’s degree from the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic, where she did her master’s thesis on the interaction of opium poppy plant and its pathogens under the supervision of Dr. Martin Janda.

As part of the secondment on the RESIST project, she will spend 1 month at UCT to collect plant tissue samples of South African flora for metabolomic analysis, including drought tolerant and resurrection species. The goal of this work is to explore the phytochemical background of how plants growing in arid regions deal with drought and the associated stress.
