The course will focus on the basic requirements to understand the plant metabolism and the techniques used to study plant metabolic processes. The presented material will provide a wide overview on different metabolomics concepts, as well as the work flow researchers usually follow in plant metabolomics studies. Aspects and techniques used for data analysis will be introduced, with the focus on mass spectrometry, and mainly gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC) as the most popular and widely used techniques in plant metabolomics.
The course will be divided into the following parts:
- General introduction about metabolomics
- Principal and basics of GC-MS analysis
- Principal and basics of LC-MS analysis
- Statistical analysis and data biological interpretation
