Cian Mahony

Position: Plant biologist, BioAtlantis

Cian Mahony is currently employed by BioAtlantis as a plant biologist. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology and Environmental Biology in 2020 and is set to start a part-time Мaster’s study building on the work he has done at Bioatlantis in September 2022. During his Bachelor degree he focused on the viability of replacing traditional chemical fertilisers with an organic seaweed biostimulant in order to enhance seed germination in a reseeded grass sward. His research interest lies in helping farmers prepare for the future by finding organic alternatives to established agriculture fertilizing practices that are currently the lead contributor to water pollution in Ireland. During his RESIST secondments he will be contributing to the research in the potential of seaweed–based biostimulants to enhance yield, quality and post-harvest shelf life of stressed and unstressed crops and optimization of the treatment regimes.
