Philipp Wendering

Philipp is a PhD student at the University of Potsdam under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zoran Nikoloski. He holds a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics with a focus on the reconstruction and analysis of genome-scale metabolic models. Philipp’s current research is focused on the prediction of metabolic phenotypes of Arabidopsis thaliana exposed to different temperatures. To this end, he integrates temperature-dependent constraints into a metabolic model of Arabidopsis thaliana, which consider protein denaturation, enzyme kinetics, photosynthesis rate and CO2 uptake as well as reaction thermodynamics. During his RESIST secondment, he will spend three months at the University of Cape Town, with Prof. Dr. Nicola Illing. He will work on the reconstruction of metabolic models of Xerophyta species, which will help facilitate the system-level analysis and integration of ‘omics data to investigate metabolic changes that concur with dehydration and rehydration of Xerophyta species.
